I find myself totally incapable of watching re-runs of this footage today. It is simply too traumatic. Perhaps the realization of man's capacity for absolute hatred has taken this long to sink in. May the victims rest in peace.
In a related matter, I've just read Fredric Jameson's review of Zizek's newest book. I've only encountered Zizek's writing through assorted essays, so it might be interesting to dig into a more cohesive work.

I'm an English professor. I completed my PhD at Western in September 2004, and was hired at Memorial University of Newfoundland. This blog started out as my way of keeping in touch with people -- giving friends and family the option of checking up on me at their leisure without the annoyance of frequent lengthy mass emails. It still does that, but has also become my personal forum for airing whatever happens to be on my mind. You have been warned.

And its Slavoj Zizek for the win!
